Would seem to be too hit and miss for drug facilitated robbery but maybe that's how these people roll, for every 10 they try it on they get one keeper like Ralphy. My money is still on plonk though.

RalphB,

So just to clarify, you say your wallet was empty, but your credit card and bank card had not been stolen, just used?

I've been hearing about this kind of thing for year but never met anybody who'd actually had it happen to them and I was starting to wonder if it was just an urban legend. However, recently I've heard a number of first and secondhand (friend fo a friend type of thing) accounts of people being drugged. I wonder if there's an uptick in this kind of activity.

And yeah, OP, no reason to worry about reporting it. I'd check your apartment thoroughly though to make sure nothing is missing and there aren't any empty baggies with risidual amounts of coke or something like that lying around since it sounds like you may have had some visitors with you.

To confirm, yes, cards used but left in wallet

I will report what I have done from some of the advice I have received. I have now informed the Hyatt, offering to review video footage if they can set aside the tapes from the evening in question. This way they can at least spot these two if they come in again.

I am pretty sure I am not going to report this to the police - I just don`t see what it gets me and it will cost time, aggrevation, and some risk of word getting out. Regarding my CC company, probably not, but still not sure

From those with good and well meaning advice, I do thank you

Did you sign any receipts? Unlikely. For future reference, when you realize what's happened, just trash your card. Report it lost, and tell the CC company the last place you used it. Anything beyond that is a fraudulent charge.

Note however, though, that it may take a LOT of teeth pulling to get the charges reversed. A friend of mine had a similar scam (w/o the fucking drugging -- they did it in front of his face, 90's yakuza style). He disputed the 200,000 yen charge on a card that "he lived on" and MasterCard gave him the run around. Of course, there was no signature on the receipt either.

I think the story has a happy ending (not the hand job kind) but it's taken a lot of effort and tears over several months.

EDIT: If it's a US company, you will not necessarily have to fill ou ta polie report of a lost item. If it's a JPN card company, you probably will.

Coming from someone that used to work in Roppongi...

1)
go to the azabu police station (its in roppongi) and report that you were drugged and got some crazy bill from the Oak Door (they got their licencing from azabu police station it think).

take a japanese MALE friend with you, he will do most of the talking for you, but if you bring a chick... usually dont work that good.

2)
Call the Oak Door and talk to the manager and tell him what happened. Remember, they are a hotel bar and cant fuck about with getting this on their back. (FYI the girls at the bar counter are usually prostitutes but that is typical... ask greji)

If he gives you shit, ask to talk to the food and beverage manager (his boss) and keep putting in his face that you were drugged.

3)
call the cc comapany and report it stolen and tell them that you are talking to the police regarding spending on the (date of incident).

really depends on if it is a FG card or Jap Card...

4)
call your embassy and report this, the US embassy already sent out mass notices about this. but with them on your side the Oak Door will comply really easy... not sure if you know... but the Oak Door has to provide hotel like service to you, plus it is ran with the Japanese mentality of services... so it makes things easier.

call the oak door again and check on what they are doing to rectify the situation. if they give you shit, tell them that you have contacted the police, your embassy, reported theft to the CC company and ask the question again.

5)
wait for something, then start from the top to see how everyone is doing.

since this was the Oak Door, you have good luck, any other spot in roppongi you are fucked. not to mention the place i worked at... your lucky that you woke up at the counter.

best bet is that the drugging came from some girl you bought the bubbly for. and more money on the table that she is a drink back girl (gets paid on 20% to 50% of your tab).

Welcome to Roppongi! Please come and waste your money again!

I'm still not understanding the reluctance to report this....why is it so important that your company not find out that you've been a victim? More than likely they will not find out, but what it is that you do that makes it absolutely imperative to keep this hush hush? (DoD work? Security-related matters?)

I don't need an answer, but if I were in the same situation, I'd definitely been on the ball regarding security cameras, reviewing tapes, talking to the Oak Bar (which it seems is a decent enough joint), CC company and the police with no hesitation, albeit a massive hangover.

Hope this works out for you, and is there an antidote/counteracting drug for any of the above-mentioned pharmaceuticals? Just wondering since it would be interesting to see the reaction of those guys as they tried to push a 104kg 6'2" guy into another bar when the drugs wear off...

Perhaps the guy doesn't want to be seen or thought of as a "victim". This is understandable I guess but it isn't necessary. He was targeted, duped and drugged by professional thieves.

Just cos they were women playing the flirt game, doesn't make them any less criminals than the smash and grab guys.

No need to protect the image at work, it is unlikely that the guys will give you shit about it.

Since noone has said the obvious, I will. Never leave your drink unattended, in any bar, in any country.

*nods head in agreement*

Been drugged twice in my travels. Once in Japan and once in Russia.

Russia - At a bar. two hot babes come over to me and start flirting. Apparently one slipped something in my drink. I had a few more sips (and felt a little off) and stupidly (luckily) knocked my drink over and the girls were quick to order me a new drink.. I wised up and got the hell out of there.

Japan - at a juice bar. With a Japanese friend. He was out 100,000 yen and I was out 30,000 yen. I felt weird after the first half of the drink (it was from the bar and never left my hands upon receiving it).

I manage to stumble out of there with 3 women trying to drag me back in. I had to physically shove them off of me. My Japanese friend was leaving as well but we got separated and he said that he left but they dragged him back inside and he couldn't say no.

Been around the world (backpacked the world for a year) and am wise to the scams. Saw a Brazilian guy in the Baltics and warned him about the scam where a girl or two of them find you walking the street and chat you up and get you to buy them a drink at the bar of THEIR CHOICE.

You go in and buy a beer for them and the bill comes and it's $1000's the boss/thug in charge says the menu shows the prices and you never asked for the menu. They have an ATM inside the bar and end up beating the money out of you if need be.

From there, I woke up very late the next morning with my clothes on, and found my wallet emptied, a bottle of champagne consumed and three empty glasses, and two other fine bottles of wine missing. And that was just the start.

Later I found out a large ATM withdraw had occured and a huge bill (multi thousands) had been rung up at a Roppongi bar, or which I have not heard of, nor know where it is.

In hindsight, I really am amazed how I have no memory of all of this, and did not see it coming having heard of stories like this before

Scuse my cynicism matey but how did they use the card at an ATM? Were they psychic enough to know your pin number? Dya think you told em? It wouldn't matter how fucking drunk I am, I have never told anybody my pin number. Sounds strange to me. Those mickey finn type drugs knock you out, they don't have you telling people intimate details of pin numbers etc.

To follow-up this story some, I have now contacted the Hyatt. They expressed some interest, but made it clear I could not review the tapes myself. They also asked if I have filed a police report? I have not heard from them since I replied I have not filed a report. I am a little disappointed they are not more eager to at least identify the two women. I am not sure what this tells me

Probably that they are complying with privacy laws. They certainly can't hand over the names of customers to you. They also can't file a police report themselves because they are not the victims. You have to be the one to file the report. If you file a police report, then they will hand over any available information to the police (not to you).

By the way, I am confused about one thing. Why have you been mentioning the possibility of calling your embassy (and why did some posters agree it was a good idea)? I was not aware that foreign embassies had any role in local law enforcement, other than when they sometimes step into major cases that have resulted in unwanted publicity. Is calling our embassy supposed to be on our checklist of things to do when we are a crime victim?

I am having a hard time imagining my embassy would say anything other than "so call the police. what do you want us to do about it?".

Israeli women were doing this in the pong a couple of years back. Would meet you in 911 or similar then they'd recommend their favourite bar. Once you'd go they'd try and get you to buy wine etc. If you're still reasonably sober you can spot it.

In Heartlands I've seen a few working women. Typically Western (or East European) and a bit old. My boss left with one of them once. Oak Door is just a trip upstairs so wouldn't be surprised if they moved around.

My mate from football was drugged in one of the titty bars once as well. Woke up with a bill of around 200k on his card. That wasn't too nice, and he was out for a day if I remember correctly. This was like 2005 or something.

Me and my mate stumbled into one of those Nigerian places once as well when we first got here - similar to that described by Chokonen. Couple of drinks and private dances cost up 150,000. After an argument, the door being slammed, plant on the floor we managed to get away - none of my cards were accepted and I started calling the cops in Japanese. Anyway, it's only later that we realised they'd stolen our cameras. Bastards.

Anyway, so it's kind of par for the course to get ripped off now and then, but drugging a chap is simply not cricket.
