I've only heard good things about Asahi-net. A friend signed up last year, and has been very happy with their service. IIRC, FG Lurker also reported a positive experience with their service...

I'm with them since we moved in Toyohashi, first DSL then Fiber... they are quite good.

But when my DSL started to go tits up, NTT tried many tricks to make me switch to another provider. I heavily suspect sabotage on their part or at least... purposefully lousy service... Starting with the fact that I received 1 year ago an offer from asahi to switch to fiber. Started the procedure with NTT who told me it was not available and put it on hold. But when my DSL started to crap I discovered that fiber was already available but they didn't contact me to proceed with a followup of the switch. Then they wanted me to fully cancel my Asahi subscription because they could not proceed with the upgrade while the previous process was supended but since it was no longer an offer that was available the whole subscription had to be cancelled (....) I felt like I was dealing with insane door to door carpet salesmen... That shit lasted 3 weeks before they gave up and agreed to proceed with asahi anyway...

For Asahi, they have english web support and phone hotline... their speed here is awesome...

We used to have Nifty with the B-Flets Mansion Type-B but despite having so-so 'net speeds, their service counter sucks. It takes them a full 48 hours to respond to any payment or request for bills and whatnot. Their call center also lacks the ability to look through previous history, citing "personal information privacy" and "will get back to you" but you wait and wait....

Thanks guys. Sounds like Asahi.net is going to be blessed with my phone call on Monday! Now, to find a mover. What the fuck happened to Eddy? He was super awesome!

The panda guys company... awesome no bullshit we-do-what-you-ask kind...

When I moved, in total chaos situation, I asked them to move all the clothing furnitures with everything still inside just duct tape the drawers and doors closed... Total 2 trucks, one medium short course delivery truck and one 6x4 beast that could not even turn to enter the parking. Everything went smooth and quick... They also offer to dispose of unwanted junk. (should have discarded much more... was a good occasion)

I haven't had any problems with Biglobe but it's Japanese only to the point of almost being obtuse.

Haha -- thanks.
I booked Quoz for the smaller part of my move, but I think they're probably more service than I need. I'd rather pack/wrap it all myself and pay less, but whatever. I dicked around too long to really be picky.

Let say that any tech/internet company struggling with the english language... should not even exist...

I had to call Microw$oft a while back to activate windows xp (i failed to copy wpa.dbl) and had to wait 20 minutes for an Engrish speaker...

i ended up calling back and activating in Japanese... but i would rather wait an hour for engrish speaker for ISP related stuffs...

Yahoo BB hasn't gave us any problems yet. do annual payments and haven't had any issues for 2 years...

In Nagoya... yahoo BB didn't work on rainy days... might have been a humidity problem in the wiring... But having only the rain to watch behind the window on a cold wet flat make it for really long days...

Well, with my current provider (fiberbit) the lady did not understand connectionless (web porn) versus connected (Skype) programs. Was trying to explain to her that their DNS was ass fucking me. Ended in tears (hers) and I wound up routing all web traffic through my home. :|

Biglobe (NEC) is a big ISP, you'd think at least they'd make a bit of an effort. I get Hikari TV as well. No English there at all either. Typically they (Biglobe in this case but can apply elsewhere) overservice Japanese customers and pretend non-Japanese customers don't exist. Luckily nothing has gone wrong in the 4 years I've been with them so I'm prepared to recommend them on that basis with that one caveat.

Is Hikari TV worth it? Does it have National Geographic / Disocvery in HD? That's about all I'd watch, and even that shit is available on the internet way before it's subtitled here. I just don't watch local TV other than the news about once a week.

No Discovery, 2 HD NG channels. Worth it for me, only 3100 yen a month. Ymmv. The tuner box went kaput last week and was a medium pita to get replaced. Lost all the stuff I'd recorded to the hard disk including the full set of Band of Brothers. Shitcuntfuck.

I sometimes miss having TV... There was an excellent channel on the cable network called "game one"... It was a video game channel where the were showing... video games... test mostly... but also walkthru...

Which was excessively cool because as much as I enjoy some storylines (Marathon on MacOS8-9 was absolutely superb) I suck immensely as a gamer...

But beside the lack of background noise these days, it's the 'passive viewing' side that I miss... Putting a movie to have some bg noise while you do something else is totally different... and just the process of choosing said movie usually take me ages... plus the fact that it isolate a bit much from outside... at least when you're tuned on CNN you know if the germans are coming down again without having to check from your window...

According to the website, Hikari TV has National Geographic HD.

(For monsieur Parisite, this is how you add something constructive to a thread, since you apparently have never done anything constructive or contributed to society in any useful way in your entire pathetic, parasitic, wagamama, existence.)

3100 yen a month... I don't know if it's quite worth it to me unless it came with WowWow so I could watch the Academy awards once a year, and maybe the Super Bowl.

I've always found everything else to be crap and to be honest, BT and other shit gives me what I want exactly, faster. It is nice to have something chosen for me though. :D

"Damn name" has been a bit voluble since one of the inmates knocked his teeth out to facilitate better blowjob giving...

All set up. While there's nothing particularly bad about the serivce, the DNS lookup turnaround time leaves a bit to be desired. Thus, web browsing is kinda "slow".

Workaround: Using Google's public DNS gives far better results.
