Tokyo- The Associated Press
A Japanese consul general in Vancouver who pleaded guilty to beating his wife was reassigned to a new post on Thursday and had his pay cut by 10 percent for three months, the foreign ministry said.
Shuji Shimokiji, 51, who was ordered back to Japan after standing trial in a Canadian court, returned to Tokyo Wednesday and reported to the foreign minister, a ministry official said. Shimokoji was reassigned to work in the ministry's secretariat, a section that works under the minister, although his exact job was still undecided, the official said. Shimokoji beat his wife last month, sending her to the hospital for treatment.

Lock him up for 21 days without access to a lawyer and beat a confession out of him. Don't bother to videotape it, or there could be "confusion" later.

The least innovative and the least scientifically brave academics I have Ever met have been Tokyo University graduates. I am not biased at all.
They had no guts, even though I told them where the thing is. Well I admit it was (and still is) bad, but still.
Dynamics, however not just your usual spring-mass-spring-mass -thing, there is indeed now The Damping involved for real, too. Loss factor, tan delta, FEM => results are needed yesterday however you'll get the values tomorrow or such... This was my ground and how to deal with it.
Only two guys of the original team remained, and with those two ones it has been seriously good. They are both badasses. Those both graduated from Osaka University. They do not only have balls, they are at it for real.
Todai kinda fucked it up here. I am not impressed at all.
Thanks for reading. Sorry for off-topic, too.

In all fairness, I don't think the Japanese are alone in their reverance for certain schools, as Catone pointed out regarding Harvard and anybody who's ever dealt with a Pom will know how people view Oxbridge graduates.
I, meanwhile, can proudly boast of being an ANUS...(for all you dirty buggers, that's an acronym for Austalian National University Scholar, but in my case it also works perfectly well as a single word in lower case).

You should've let me know your were in town. I could've introduced you to several other Chinese-run and Korean-run Japanese restaurants. There are many.

I lived in Seattle for 6 years so I know the scene pretty well. Or at least I did. I'm sure a lot has changed in six and a half years.
