I showed a pic of that prick to my wife and the first thing she said was, "He's a Todai graduate." Gotta love how the weasle-y gaimusho spokesman said it was a "private matter."

It's still beyond me that in those child abduction cases, the Japanese mama claims abuse 99.99% of the time and yet spousal abuse is clearly a much larger problem in Japan than it is in many other countries. Seems that as long as you're not FG, you can beat the living shit out of your wife and the cops won't do anything, citing "private matter" as an excuse not to intervene. Maybe they're so used to hearing about abuse here that is seems more plausible but at least in the U.S., if that shit happens and the spouse calls the popo, the handcuffs come out and it gets documented. (as seen here) I hope he gets the book thrown at him and we get at least some coverage of it here. The whole FG are wife beaters image is ass backwards...

The least the SFPD could do is treat him properly as a guest and show him the treatment he would receive as a suspect in his own country. Lock him up for 21 days without access to a lawyer and beat a confession out of him. Don't bother to videotape it, or there could be "confusion" later. :ninja2:

Some of us remember that this isn't the first Japanese diplomat domestic assault case. Back in '99 a Japanese Diplomat assaulted his wife saying 'it was a cultural thing and no big deal'.

Tokyo- The Associated Press

A Japanese consul general in Vancouver who pleaded guilty to beating his wife was reassigned to a new post on Thursday and had his pay cut by 10 percent for three months, the foreign ministry said.

Shuji Shimokiji, 51, who was ordered back to Japan after standing trial in a Canadian court, returned to Tokyo Wednesday and reported to the foreign minister, a ministry official said. Shimokoji was reassigned to work in the ministry's secretariat, a section that works under the minister, although his exact job was still undecided, the official said. Shimokoji beat his wife last month, sending her to the hospital for treatment.

Interestingly enough, looking at Shimokoji now he is the present ambassador to Panama

Nice post! Wish you'd do it more often. When the wife made the Todai comment, she didn't mean it as a compliment. Entitled idiot savants that they are, they run this country (into the ground). True mandarins, they.

Holy shit! Todai is a university? I thought that when people were talking about it, they were just taking the piss out of my Strine accent...

In all fairness, I don't think the Japanese are alone in their reverance for certain schools, as Catone pointed out regarding Harvard and anybody who's ever dealt with a Pom will know how people view Oxbridge graduates.

I, meanwhile, can proudly boast of being an ANUS...(for all you dirty buggers, that's an acronym for Austalian National University Scholar, but in my case it also works perfectly well as a single word in lower case).

I went to the Todai in Bellevue, Washington once. I didn't want to but everyone else in my group did. I knew it would be bad and was still disappointed by just how disgusting the food was. You'd expect the raw fish at a cheap sushi buffet in suburban USA to suck but even the things that should have been edible were awful. The Korean food section had some kimchee that almost made me vomit.

Thank You, I guess... :)

There is more for You. I still can't go into details on exactly who and how, however the story exists maybe for Your liking.

About the background, generally on the thing:

According to my best knowledge (I still can't really listen, read or speak true japanese), about three years ago this all-japanese Tokyo-based team came up with an invention regarding a generic polymeric materials "family", exhibiting a superior mechanical vibration damping properties.

All the magic happens at non-linear region, that is, at the glass transition temperature region. There is a Plenty of industrially preferred properties as well, property optimization by formulation, price for raw materials only around 10 USD per kilo or less, non-toxic (essentially), can be processed with existing tooling gear, and so on.

I personally have an industrial patent on the same principle, only with different base chemistry. My thing was about epoxies (I think the Mods are able do a search at Espace.net based on my email address).

This japanese invention exceeded my thing by going, well, basically off the known space at non-linear region. And this is where they also made their the first major screw-up.

The thing is: Regardless of the invention, Once you have anything like that in your hand, you Have To take a step backwards and really start to think. While thinking, you must do all kinds of imaginable (affordable) test series, ask others, apply it everywhere at least incognito and generally play around with the thing, just to build up some insight on how it actually works and about the most likely business fields where it could be applied.

Not these guys.

Due to initial results, and (as far I have figured it out) only after a few re-trials on the compounding, they were blown away.

After which they went wild.

I believe the Todai guys sold this thing as a major R&D project to the Big Boys, promising them the high and low in the field of damping materials before anything of it was actually verified for an application. The Salesman Classic, what else.

And, after a year or so, they realized they would not meet their promises to the Big Boys.

At this point (I think), they did their first Real survey on who else in this world could have done anything like they did. They looked forr a person, just anybody, I think.

And then my name popped up. What more, asking anything about the previous issues on the project has led me and the japanese boys in a kind of awkward mood, which is to me kinda fascinating, kinda.

So, after realizing they would not make it in front of all of their promises, they just hired someone acknowledged in the team to a) solve the problem (against the laws of the nature) or b) take the blame as an foreign expert who did not make it.

These japanese boys were unexperienced. For an expert, there is also an option c), which is "to buy time", in this case exhibiting applications where that stuff works like no other, and does it naturally. This very thing has bought the essential time for the Osaka FEM - mathematicians to optimize the other applications. Two of the main realizations have recently seen the daylight.

Which led to a situation where those who can't do their thing just have to go.

I am still a "consult", more or less. Due to that, I have been flipping between Japan and Finland. The invention remains fully japanese, however this collab most likely will have some good outcome as well.

On my behalf, besides those results, I am kinda joyous to be a part of "further education". :D

Thanks for reading. I am sorry, this was a long post. I usually do not waste bandwidth this much.

Waseda got knocked off its perch a while ago, companies started to notice the graduates were full of themselves and totally useless. Todai can't be far behind.

We've got Toadies at the company I work at, a couple of the younger ones are quite nice guys but I wouldn't say they were any smarter than anyone else. We've got one middle aged Taody who is a complete space cadet, I once had a 23 year old complain to me she had to explain his job to him.

 So what else are you to do after putting any amount of rotten, fermented cabbage doused in salt and red pepper near your mouth?

That's the whole point of Korean 'food' - it's rotted vegetable matter, roots, even bark, stringy shit, tasteless garbage, the worst 'meat' around full of fat and bone, much of it then covered in sugary sauce to attempt to hide the horrendous 'taste'.

I almost felt sorry for Koreans when I saw a news story about how a group of them put up a huge ad on a billboard in New York, one of the great food centres of the world, promoting in Konglish 'Bibimpap'. While not the worst Korean 'food' it's still fucking awful - stringy, tasteless vegetables that you mash together with rice after covering it with a sauce to get rid of the fuckawful taste.:passout:

And the Koreans then got upset when a Japanese writer (and millions of non Japanese non writers) wondered why they were even acknowledging they have such filth let alone trying to pass it off as 'cuisine' on the rest of the world. They never get it, the Koreans. If most of them weren't such absolute cunts I'd feel sorry for them.
