I grew up in a heavily plastic paddy neighborhood in NYC. It was the kind of place where they used to have IRA fund raisers are the local pubs. Really classy people.

Hiker's body found on Mt Fuji

The body of Matt Johnson was found Friday on Mount Fuji, his family said in a posting on their Facebook page for him.

Johnson, the 33-year-old Portage man who was in Japan on a business trip, was missing since Jan. 13. He was going camping on the mountain and his car was found at the base of Mount Fuji.

An extensive search was undertaken for Johnson by teams of people, and in early February, his family joined the search at the mountain.

On Feb. 15, the family said, "After three days, the search team did not find my brother. There are no other areas to search until the deep snow melts."

But on June 8, they wrote they received confirmation his body was found.

"For those of you following the trail maps, Matt was located about 500 meters left of the Yoshida summer trail at around the station 8 level. Matt most likely fell (or was blown) from the switchbacks at the higher elevations (stations 8-10). This area was searched in February, but was covered in unusual amounts of snow."

This getting dragged out pretty long. They should have video from the taxi, the hotel, and a ton of other damning or name-clearing evidence....BUT...considering the hotel staff actually came to the room (and opened the door?) due to noise complaints, my guess is the murder charge is going to come out sooner or later. Loud sex is one thing and might yield a call to the room...but screams of rape/attack would send staff up there to investigate.

So hiking alone during insane conditions, gets blown off the mountain, and becomes a gaijin popsicle. Sorry to sound harsh but at 33, you'd think you'd have more common sense than this.

Don't forget, suspects can be held for up to 23 days per alleged crime.
The cops will try and get a confession before that and then add a new charge (I'd say murder may be unlikely because of a lack of premeditation), but will bide their time and find other charges to lay after 23 days if need be.
Making suspects stew in their juices until they fess up is a common tactic employed here.

1st degree murder you mean right? What they did looks like 2nd degree... but me sees a confession that don't make sense. only looking at 5 years so I hope they have fun dancing with some Yaks in the j-slammer.

No difference in Japan.
You either murder or didn't murder.
They'll probably get "inflicting bodily harm resulting in death," which is like 2nd degree.
It could also be aggravated if rape is involved.
Either way for the guy who did it, 10-12, maybe 15 because they're black, and probably about 1/3rd of that if it was the minor.

Yeah, I guess what I was saying is with all that evidence they should have, getting confessions would seem to be easy and fast in this case. I keep saying should have because TIJ and I wouldn't be surprised if the cameras weren't on or any footage they took was deleted before it was found it could be useful.

Or hidden... this is what happened when the US-Korean kid got mugged on a stairwell. They first said he fell down the stairs...

I remember that in the news...whatever happened with it? Last I read was the police just closed the case, calling it accidental death, despite all kinds of things pointing to a beat down/murder.

The kid's name was Scott Kang.

There is a site dedicated to him here: http://scottkang.org/

And, the last article I recall in the English-language press was last Autumn when his family came to Tokyo seeking answers:

JAPAN TIMES Tuesday, Sep. 6, 2011, THE ZEIT GIST - Kang family takes fight for justice to Tokyo: Father of young Korean-American who died in murky circumstances in Kabuki-cho feels let down by both the police and U.S. Embassy

However, nothing since then.

It might certainly be cruel to point this out, but the suspicious death of a geeky Asian-American kid is not going to get as much attention from either the foreign or Japanese press compared to a dead or missing attractive Western (white) female. Some have even given this media bias phenomenon a name "Missing white woman syndrome (MWWS)"

LOL, MWWS....but sooo true.

Gotta love when the J-popo's get called out on their bullshit investigative skills and just cover shit up. Won't release the autopsy report, or the surveillance video...pretty unreasonable. The Lacey case just sounds like lazy popo's trying to avoid doing their jobs. The Kang one sounds like they must have been on the payroll of someone involved to have video and the ID'S on such an assault and ruled it an accident backed by dismissing a beat down as gay playfulness.

Your use of the word "popo" for police or cops is pretty fucking annoying.

So what happened to the two black guys arrested for the Irish girl's murder?

Wikipedia:

Police arrested two Americans, one 19 year old Richard Hinds and the other 23-year-old dancer James Jamari Blackston who allegedly gave drinks to her friend Sarah Maher. Later Hinds confessed to police that he strangled Furlong after he raped her. In June 2012 family members of Nicola Furlong came to Japan to take her body for homeland.

Nicola Furlong and her friend were drugged, kidnapped (forced into a taxi) sexually assaulted in the taxi then taken to the Keio Hotel Tokyo where the hotel broke the Japanese law and allowed non-registered guests into the rooms at night and assisted the Kidnappers by giving them a wheelchair to bring the comatose girls to the room, where they were raped and one murdered.

In August 2012 they plead guilty.

R.I.P. Emmanuelle

Doesn't really belong here, except the morning idiot box news kept repeating this story, which I found kinda typically Japanese...it's breakky time and you're getting stuck into your All Bran (or your pikelets smothered in jam, butter, cream and hamburger patties if you're an average Merkin) while the nippers get ready for school and they keep playing an obit to a 1970s softcore porn starlet who hadn't had a film, let alone a hit, in over 30 years...Sukebe, depraved producer. Probably molested a schoolgirl (or took a photo up her skirt) on the way into the Orifice.

Still, with apologies to Coligny, these movies were about best things ever exported from France (along with Serge Gainsborg songs, Bridget Bardot's ass and TinTin, which is Belgian, but that's the same thing anyway...run as soon as the Germans come).
