"Japanese cops will absolutely never hit you. Even if you are unlucky enough to get caught, all they'll do is deport you," one Chinese crim tells Shukan Taishu. "Of course I'm scared of getting caught, but the cops themselves are hardly what I'd call frightening."
Even those offenders sent to the slammer say Japan's jails are jokes.
"Japanese jail? Oh, it's wonderful! You get nice meals, free medical. It's better than living in a hotel. The work's pretty easy and they even pay you for it. It's awesome. We get VIP treatment," a one-time Chinese con says.

Yeah, right! But I'd take Japanese prison over American prison anyday, seeing how I don't wanna toss anybody's salad or be Big Bubba's bitch. Does anybody know if rape is common in Japanese prisons?Clearly, foreign prisoners get better treatment than the Japanese

OZ rocks! (HBO page, IMDB page) One of the best things on HBO. Though I wasn't too happy with the end of Season 5.
I always thought it was odd how some of the biggest stars on OZ were also in the different Law & Order shows - usually playing complete opposites of their characters. J.K. Simmons goes from being a Aryan leader to the caring psychiatrist. Chris Meloni was a scheming, manipulative con and a devoted detective. At least B.D. Wong only had to do a minor gear shift from priest to a shrink.
