Green Bell in Asakusa has vegetable ice cream. Some are good (pumpkin, corn), some too strange to contemplate.... Spinach ice cream anyone? Natto is bearable and I hate the stuff. Full list HERE

I'm very partial to Champagne ice cream. On the other hand, I've cranked out Pear ice cream that tastes sweet soft sand. Yuck-o.

Pumpkin ice cream is standard in Japan now. However, years ago I bought a pint of Pumpkin at 31 Flavors decades ago that was terrible. I left in serving dishes in my sink and the next morning I found it unmelted (because all the stabilizers, chemicals in it). When I gave it my pigs for their breakfast, even they would not eat it.

The basashi aisu (horse meat ice cream) warranted a mention on BBC Radio 4 this morning.

Sea urchin ice cream, how cool is that?IHT/Asahi: August 20, 2005
... There's Dracula ice cream, from Aomori Prefecture, made with garlic. It's not so strange, really, compared with ice creams made with chicken wings or bits of beef tongue.
Other unusual varieties are made with soy sauce or have a pearl inside. They're meant to reflect on their localities of origin-thus ice creams from Hokkaido feature delicacies such as crab and sea urchin. Okhotsk ice cream, also from Hokkaido, but named after the sea off the northeast of Hokkaido, is flavored with salt...more...

I suppose it depends on how much sugar they add to it.

What gets me is they are charging 300 yen for one! Im usually a 100 yen combini ice cream tono with rare pruchases of Haagen Daz and Godiva both around 300 yen. I wonder if the same people who thought up that nasty cucumber drink came up with this ice cream?

She's a real sad tomato; someone busted her cherry... :tounge:

New Häagen-Dazs Vegetable Flavors
Häagen-Dazs Japan will be coming out with two new vegetable flavors on May 12, and they’ll be called the “Spoon Vege” series. That’s right, ice cream that allows you to eat vegetables as a dessert! And they’ll be available in the “Tomato Cherry” and “Carrot Orange” flavors.

The “Tomato Cherry” combines the natural sweetness of tomato with the fruity flavor of cherry, which should accentuate the rich taste of the tomato.

The “Carrot Orange” takes the gentle flavor of carrot and adds to it the fresh citrus taste and scent of orange, giving the carrot a sophisticated and refreshing twist.

That actually sounds quite good, doesn’t it? And according to the information in the press release from Häagen-Dazs, these ice creams will contain about 8.5% milk fat, which is only a little over half what Häagen-Dazs ice cream usually contains, so maybe it’s actually not too far off to say that the “vegetable ice cream” is somewhat healthy (relatively speaking, of course).

Both ice cream flavors will be available in 100ml (3.7oz) cups priced at 284 yen. It should be interesting to see how the taste of the vegetables have been arranged, and with the weather starting to get slightly warmer, it seems we’ll have something to look forward to next month.
