I can only assume that if they weren't available for sale, there was a huge blackmarket outlet, because I can remember seeing lots of the old circular type day calendar pill packages. This dates back to the 70's time frame.

I guess the extreme example on the other end would be the anally-retentive classic Asian type that have to carefully follow step by step... graduate from the university and get the first job by age 22, get married with the OL in the same company department by age 28 (via company go-kon and the consequent dekikon..), get your first "promotion" by age 32, pay off your home loan by 45, retire at age 60, put up with the shit the company throws at you until you pretty much die in vain.
Oh the joy of a typical J salaryman!!

Samurai_Jerk wrote:Actually, it seems like pulling out is the preferred method of contraception here which is why there are so many dekichatta kekkon. I'm just surprised by how many people I've met in Japan who got married based on an accidental pregnancy after only a few months of dating.
xeno, contraception is considered to be solely the man's responsibility here in my experience too and unwanted pregnancies are the man's fault which is why he has to "do the right thing" and marry the girl he knocks up.

Do they even have the remedial pill in Japan (The Morning After Pill)? Something that would cut that deeply into industry profits must be far Too Dangerous for the delicate constitutions of those obliged to increase the surplus population.
