Finding a job outside of Tokyo

Postby Ghost » Fri Apr 23, 2004 4:32 pm

Hi everyone. Please can somebody give me some advice on getting a job outside of Tokyo and what realistic chances I have getting one. OK I have been in Tokyo for about 5 months and was working at Gaba for 2 months (but had a disagreement with the manager and got sacked  ) but now I want to get away from Tokyo and live with my gf who lives in Fukushima. Thing is though how do I go about getting a job in Fukushima when I am currently in Tokyo and what chances do you lot think I have? I am only 20 years old and have no degree but I do have 2 months teaching experience (though only 1 on 1) and a working holiday visa (soon getting a spouse visa by the end of the year).

Any advice would be great.

Thanks

Do-inaka jobs are easy and yet hard to find out in the boonies. Thank Buddha your visa is not a huge problem. However, your age, no degree AND job-hopping is gonna make it tough.

I don't know beans about Fukushima, but I've poked my nose in the door of a few English schools I've walked past in wilds of Shikoku just to say "Howdy Neighbor" and they nearly shanghaied me into teaching on the spot. Yep, there're few jobs in the boonies but there's a much greater need for blue-eyed devils.

Bottom Line: Act real friendly, be cute and you'll get a job.
((OMG! I said something positive about jobs in Japan: it must be a first. :P ))

Well lets just say that Fukushima is mostly mountains and onsens (like most of japan I imagine). But the big problem is transport, my gf has a car but I dont and you really MUST have one in Fukushima because there is nothing for miles.

50cc will get ya anywhere.
250cc and you can haul ass.

Used prices start at 10,000yen for 50cc and often your employer will give you one if the teaching locations are remote (at least that's the deal my buddy got).
