It rubs both ways. Mao abused the situation of an aggressive outside power to consolidate his gains in northern China. The idea that the China militia (as it wasn't trained enough to be treated as an army), united behind the Communists and the Nationalists, could have defeated the Japanese Imperial Army is a joke. Neither the Communists nor the Nationalists had suitable medical facilities for their troops, so the foot soldiers were the most expendable parts in their war machines. When soliders know that they won't be evacuated and treated for wounds, they don't take the risks needed to establish footholds against an enemy position.

The size of China defeated the Japanese, just like the size of Russia defeated the Nazis and Napolean's army. :!:

yea.. but kaishek did this stupid thing where he decided to attack communists and unionists. the government kicked him out, and he decided to form his own rebel government. there was a really loose alliance to combat the japanese, but kai-shek kinda ruined what was there. then more civil war, and shek and his followers running away to taiwan along with national treasures and talent. My favorite was in taibei when watching a "traditional" chinese opera being reminded that the mainland doesnt know how to do this anymore because they destroyed their scripts during the cultural revolution and how this proves that taiwan represents the REAL culture of china. odd, watching Peking opera... it was more or less the exact same thing. down to the costume design and the movements. next week, they show the same opera that i saw in taibei. eh.. whatever... back to studying
