Right-Wing Group Plans to Assault Premier Koizumi's Right-Hand Man
Weekly Post
An attempt to assault Prime Minister Koizumi's right-hand man was aborted. If it had been executed, it would have resulted in serious consequences.

In the early part of November when this plan was discovered, tensions ran high throughout the Prime Minister's Official Residence.

The attack was planned by an extreme right-wing group in protest against political movements by Japanese politicians and business corporations to take advantage of planned industrial development projects in North Korea.

On November 12, the Director of Japan's Public Security Investigation Agency rushed into the Prime Minister's Official Residence (PMOR) and made an urgent report to Masahiro Nihashi, the Deputy Chief Cabinet Secretary.

His report indicated that a right-wing group was so outraged by the prime minister's consideration of efforts to provide economic aid to North Korea that they planned to assault Isao Iijima, Chief Secretary for Prime Minister Koizumi.

On October 31, however, the public security authorities had reported informally to the PMOR that the target of the attack would be Mr. Iijima. The PMOR, however, did not take any action, which prompted the Director of the Public Investigation Agency to rush into the PMOR on November 12.

Gee, I wonder if this is related to the events of Nov. 1: Right-Wing Punks in Shinjuku
I hope they were planning on using a different a shooter, the guy in Shinjuku just blew a hole in a wall.

Investigation? He turned himself in, that means he feels sorry for what he did and all is forgiven. Better use those police resources to track down Chinese criminals who are working illegally for low wages and paying taxes.

Police break up 300 million extortion ring
Asahi
OSAKA--Police arrested all seven members of a quasi-political group Thursday on suspicion of extorting nearly 300 million yen from companies through overpriced nationalist-themed merchandise.

The Osaka-based Nihon Aikoku Rengokai (Japan patriotic joint association) has no record of campaigning on streets, police said. But members have been reported to intimidate companies across the country into paying "contributions" or buying the merchandise.

Police raided 19 sites, including the group's office in Osaka's Chuo Ward.

The arrests concern extortion attempts against three companies in Osaka Prefecture in March and April.

The group, believed to be led by Tetsuhiko Onodera, 47, a resident of Tokyo's Adachi Ward, demanded the companies buy the books they published to celebrate commemorative days, such as Emperor Showa's birthday on April 29 or the Day of Northern Territories on Feb. 7, for 60,000 yen apiece.

When the companies refused, the group members allegedly threatened, "Watch your back, because thugs may be coming to beat up (your employees)."...more...

Rise of far right leads to fear and mistrust for Japan's neighbours
Friday, December 08, 2006 - Belfast Telegraph
.......a militarily resurgent Japan is creating nervous reactions from neighbours, who remember the millions killed in Japan's war-time expansion.
Such nationalism has already sparked street protests from teachers who are resisting orders to force students to sing the national anthem and salute the flag.
"If you look at all the laws they passed in the past three years it is preparation for war like we did 60 years ago," says Yumi Kikuchi, a writer who was attending a meeting in central Tokyo recently to protest against moves to the right.
All of this is exactly what Japan's influential and well-organised right-wing movement has been demanding for years. Using trucks with loud-speakers, the right-wingers are a menacing sight in the smart shopping districts of central Tokyo on a Saturday morning. ....more...

"..... the Taiko-Sha are accused of carrying out fire-bombings, beatings, stabbings, shootings, and even their own ritual suicides, to make a political point....."

It must be a slow news day. I would be interested to see his list of these events and when and where they occured. Kato's bonfire is a fact, but I am pushed to recall any other recent events that would fall in to his call for police right-wing "terrorist" fears. There really hasn't been much fun lately, other than the usual rightest bragging and routine sound truck multi-db rantings.
