Right-Wing Group Plans to Assault Premier Koizumi's Right-Hand Man
Weekly Post
An attempt to assault Prime Minister Koizumi's right-hand man was aborted. If it had been executed, it would have resulted in serious consequences.
In the early part of November when this plan was discovered, tensions ran high throughout the Prime Minister's Official Residence.
The attack was planned by an extreme right-wing group in protest against political movements by Japanese politicians and business corporations to take advantage of planned industrial development projects in North Korea.
On November 12, the Director of Japan's Public Security Investigation Agency rushed into the Prime Minister's Official Residence (PMOR) and made an urgent report to Masahiro Nihashi, the Deputy Chief Cabinet Secretary.
His report indicated that a right-wing group was so outraged by the prime minister's consideration of efforts to provide economic aid to North Korea that they planned to assault Isao Iijima, Chief Secretary for Prime Minister Koizumi.
On October 31, however, the public security authorities had reported informally to the PMOR that the target of the attack would be Mr. Iijima. The PMOR, however, did not take any action, which prompted the Director of the Public Investigation Agency to rush into the PMOR on November 12.
Gee, I wonder if this is related to the events of Nov. 1: Right-Wing Punks in Shinjuku
