I've never been able to figure that one out. Is there some reason for this besides just being an "old wives tale"...

I'd heard something like that before. I'm guessing that the early church fathers celebrated it in December to coincide with Roman Winter Solstice so they could witness to them easier. Correct me if I'm wrong.

I dont get.
they are always cold and saying "samui samui" so they crank the heating up to a near vomitting point in offices, trains, buses...but
sit in their house and fucking FREEZE!![]()
or they hide under the Kotatsu while the rest of the house(thin-walled concrete bunker with no insulation)is below zero!
![]()
The trains are disgusting, you notice even when its not very cold the heat is often cranked right up, the train staff arent allowed to change the temp. from the morning...so if its chilly AM the heat gets cranked up...by the afternoon with sunlight and 100 people per sq. metre...it like a fucking oven!![]()
do you think anyone has the brains to OPEN A FUCKING WINDOW!
No of course not.
and they wonder why they all sleep! they are so sleepy because they are so oxygen starved.

Man, I wised you posted more often. That sums it up perfectly.
Why are Japs so cold? Icicles for hearts.

Recent? Compared to what, the wheel?
In case you missed a few centuries, we're in the 21st century now. A major advancement in housing that happened ~350 years ago does not seem particularly recent.

Christ was supposedly born in April, coinciding with the celestial events recorded by the Chinese (star of Bethlehem).FG Lurker wrote:I think Christ was actually born in March, but I could be wrong about the month. The reason for choosing December was due to a pagan winter solstice celebration -- celebrating the return of the sun I believe. I don't know if it was Roman or not...

Compared to Japanese architecture, which likes to pretend it's still in the Heian era.
