Me too. I go to the gym and work out 4 days/week doing anaerobic exercises. I do aerobic exercises 3 days/week.
But ever since I discovered beer (quite a while ago too), I lost my "six pack" and I now have a "keg".

 That's a very good way to put it!! If only it actually held beer... ;)

I've got to get the weight off by this summer... I guess if I start now I will not look too bad by the time July roles around.

I gave up red meat, sugar drinks, and desserts altogether. This amounted to a nearly instant loss of 20 pounds, within 2 months, without any extra exercise whatsoever. Once you lose that weight, you do exercises, 15 minutes a day is all it takes. Do some crunches, push ups, leg lifts (alternate days), you'll be fit- and I mean *fit*, within 2 months of the exercises. Then you can re-add red meat and extra protein to your diet as you burn it (but sugar and desserts are still out). Taadaa! You're fit as a fiddle, with almost no work!

(Oh yeah- I still booze it up once a week with no weight gain! You might have to spend the night dancing or something to get rid of those cals, though. Of course, it might be attributed to the fact that I'm young. But I did have the weight to lose in the first place, and I never got it back.)
Why do the Japanese always have to have a favorite saying?

I just noticed now the relevance of my "terminology" to the actual topic at hand. I've always used those terms but never has it fit so right with the topic at hand. :)

Hey, it's never too late to start! You should see progress by the time July comes around as long as you're committed to "sticking to your own advice"! :D

When you cut out the extra calories all of a sudden (providing that it was a regular part of your diet), you will lose weight. And when you suddenly add a regular excerise regime to that, you will see results, fast.
That is a good plan, although I'd still recommend regular exercise and a good diet as a way to keep the weight off. Cutting out red meat is a good idea as it has more cons than it does pros. Cons are the high (saturated) fat content and the high calories. The pros are the high (whey) protein content and the creatine content. But as long as you're taking a multivitamin and some protein shakes, I see no reason to eat red meat at all. And there's always creatine monohydrate powders to take if you "require" creatine in your diet.
Don't forget to plan one day out of the week as a "cheat day". Meaning on your cheat day, you may snack or drink whatever you want to. (Not in a super huge quantity though, of course) By doing that, you can still retain discipline for your diet because you get that "cheating urge" out of your system by having that one day a week cheat day. :)

That could constitute as your "cheat day". Once a week is not enough to make you noticiably gain fat. Also note that you are watching your diet and weight now, unlike before when you weren't. If that's not the case, then you could also be blessed with a high metabolism, in which you haven't utilized to your advantage before you made an attempt to lose weight. :)

Telegraph: Look into my eyes for slimmer thighs
Paul McKenna's I Can Make You Thin was at number six on internet bookseller Amazon's bestseller list last week and yesterday rose to number three. Although the book and accompanying weight-loss CD doesn't officially go on sale in shops until this week, the demand for advance copies is both a reflection of the McKenna brand and the seasonal New Year, new leaf, surge in self-help manuals.
"The crux of the system is this: people are overweight because they eat too fast, in order to get a high from the food they are eating," says McKenna. "They eat so fast, they can't hear the signal that tells them they're full. By consciously slowing their speed of eating, they will be aware of when they have had enough." On the CD, McKenna softly urges the listener to conjure up scenarios that will help reprogramme their brains.
"Imagine a movie of yourself eating slowly and consciously, putting the knife and fork down on the table while you chew slowly and stopping before you're full," he says. "Watch that movie. Float into yourself in that movie. Feel how good it feels to eat slowly." His four golden rules are as follows: when you are hungry, eat. Eat what you want, not what you think you should. Eat consciously and enjoy every mouthful. When you think you are full, stop eating.
...At the British Dietetic Association, spokeswoman Helen Andrews is more sceptical. Thinking oneself thin might be a great idea in theory, but, in practice, it is rather more difficult. "A lot of what Paul McKenna says is the sort of advice we've been giving people for years," she says. "It sounds very easy, but if it were as simple as it sounds, everybody would be doing it. What we've found is that people need to know what to eat and how much to eat; they've got no idea what's a good or normal portion."

you eat only protien for 2 weeks.
This is supposed to boost your metabolism also.

Protein indeed does help give your metabolism a "boost". Primary reason why is because protein is one of the key factors in muscle growth. The more muscle you have, the more fat you burn. The only thing about this is that you get minimal results from protein consumption if you're not "working" your muscles enough for growth.
A high intense workout (whether it be aerobic or anaerobic) is (IMO) the most beneficial way to help burn fat and boost your metabolism. The normal human body's metabolism "rev's up" (Sorry, I forgot by how many percent) for approximately 9 hours following an intense workout.
Protein consumption at this point will aid muscle growth (during rest periods, of course), thus enhancing the body's ability to burn fat.
I don't know much, but I don't think it is possible to consume only protein. There is no such thing as a pure protein source, that leaves out calories, carbs and fat (unsaturated or saturated).

Your bang on with the body revving up, although it actually revs up for up to 27 hours depending on the metabolism

Its not a good idea going protein only, for one you will have very little energy, and two you will have a serious case of diarrhoea!

I've also found out that Slim Fast (2 times a day, and then a regular and sensible dinner) is another great way to get your daily nutrition in decent proportions too. And it's cheaper. --I'm broke so it's an acceptable option for me

I've heard people get some good results with Slimfast - I agree on the EAS pricing, it is a bit steep - especially month on month.

Good luck!

Want to lose weight

Postby Mini_B » Mon Jan 24, 2005 1:27 am

Stop eating so much and quit sitting around on the computer drinking coke asking people how to lose weight. Go outside and run somewhere.

Goldenboy - your cooking teacher must be a real idiot if he/she told you to eat lots of carbs to lose weight. That's retarded.

The guys on these forums are experts on what it's like to be an FG. If you want to exploit the experts on other forums regarding fitness I would suggest: forum.bodybuilding.com and forum.avantlabs.com (For Avant, I suggest that you post in the Basics 101 section to stay on everybody's good side. bodybuilding.com is like the bigdaikon.com of fitness forums so it doesn't matter where you post.)
