NARASHINO, Chiba -- A teenage boy stabbed his girlfriend before turning the knife on himself at a condominium complex here, police said.
Investigators are probing the case on suspicion of attempted murder.
The mother of a 17-year-old female student of a prefectural high school contacted firefighters from a condominium in Narashino where they live, at around 11:10 p.m. on Wednesday, reporting that her daughter had been stabbed. "My daughter was stabbed in the back. A boy is lying in the corridor," she was quoted as saying.
Officers rushed to the scene and found the high school girl lightly injured while bleeding from the chest and back on the corridor of the sixth floor of the 11-story complex. A 17-year-old boy was found nearby bleeding from the chest with serious wounds.
A knife was found in the inner courtyard of the condominium, investigators said.
The girl and the boy are classmates who live in the same condominium complex and were apparently going out with each other. The stabbing incident allegedly occurred after the pair came back to the condominium together.
"We had a quarrel and I was stabbed. Soon afterwards, he stabbed himself in the chest," the girl was quoted as telling police.
The boy told paramedics as he was being taken to hospital, "I stabbed her. I want to apologize to her."
Investigators will question the boy after he recovers from his wounds.
