Denny's has opened the chain's first eco-restaurant in Kemigawa, Chiba. The company says the remodelling will cut CO2 emmissions by 40% through the extensive use of solar panels and substituting propane gas for an ecocute heat pump. LED lighting has been used where possible and a number of other initiatives are designed to conserve power and reuse water. After seeing the results of these measures, Denny's will look to roll them out in other locations.

There was an IHop on the way out to my place that was always full up. Went to it one day and saw a closing notice. I asked the manager what was up? They always had a shit load of customers.

He said that the main office was in a major financial bind and was closing most of their restaurants in Tokyo. He didn't offer any other explanations, so I don't know if that was true, but I don't think I have seen an IHop in the Tokyo area since that time.

Krispy Kreme donuts aren't that good, except for the hot ones. The lines have died down so it's possible that they'll close down in Japan in a few years just like Cinnabon did.

Cold Stone Creamery had long lines. Now they don't.

Sizzler closed down on Omotesando a few years ago.

Bob's Big Boy has hamburgs, not hamburgers.

El Torito closed down in Shibuya a few years ago.

KK is fuckin shit. Coffee is like sewer sludge, doughnuts are soo sweet that they fuckin hurt. two hours later they are rock candy. Dunks does a much better job. KK only survived because they kept the store number low enough to keep the "disney" buzz going. I fucking hate the brainwashed j-consumer.

Everyone knows the winners like McDonalds, Denny's and KFC but, as Xenomorph notes, there have been a lot of chains which started up but failed for one reason or another. You can add the Berni Inn, Hardee's, Pizza Inn, Orange Julius, Tastee Freeze to his list.

The last few years have seen a new generation of entrants, prompted mainly by the success of Starbucks and cheaper real estate. Some, like Pret a Manger, hardly lasted. Burger King is a rare example of a brand getting a second chance in Japan.

But seriously, I feel the opposite. MD those aren't donuts. At best, they should rename them Mr. Cakes best donuts in the world, my ass! They are so hard, you can use them as "Brillo pads" and to ad insult to injury how dare the company make false advertisements that it's famous in San Francisco. Never seen it, never heard of it(thank the heavens)no one out there would remotely even try to eat, sorry...pulverize and put into their system. You need to swallow some stones just to help mulch the shit up!
While tastes are subjective, I have to say in all honesty, thank God that the MD is "mostly" popular in Japan and no where else really. If it were, I'd give up eating donuts, er...cakes altogether.

It was quite interesting to see many restaurant chains in Korea. I was shocked to see a Chilli's and Quezno's at Incheon almost the exact items as back in the states. I was wondering as to why so many American restaurants thrive in Korea, but they do a Kamikaze in Japan. Even Costco in Korea is awesome, here it's just getting more and more deplorable.

Just looked it up, and it seems they are now run by Big Boy Japan. It seems the only ones left are in Hokkaido of all places. But there are 43 of 'em in Hokkaido!!??

I got it, but why did they all disappear in the states??? Probably because of their granite like taste. but kudos to you for liking MD, But whenever I go to Korea, I always make sure of stopping by DD! Especially, when I go back to the states. I need to Dunk my Donut(kinda straightforward)You think you can whip up an old menu of MD in the states? I'd really be interested in it. I can't believe the states had the same crappy menu as Japan.
