Solar-Powered Eco-Denny's

Postby Mulboyne » Thu Jul 30, 2009 10:06 pm

Image

Denny's has opened the chain's first eco-restaurant in Kemigawa, Chiba. The company says the remodelling will cut CO2 emmissions by 40% through the extensive use of solar panels and substituting propane gas for an ecocute heat pump. LED lighting has been used where possible and a number of other initiatives are designed to conserve power and reuse water. After seeing the results of these measures, Denny's will look to roll them out in other locations.

Those two panels are for the sign and light they are attached to, not for the structure. They may not be as sinister or cynical as you think.

All the attempts at making it an eco-friendly Denny's don't mean shit, if it ain't got the "Grand slam" or the "skillet breakfasts", this is a Denny's by name only and shouldn't be labeled as an American Family Restaurant, which it frankly isn't !!

The local Denny's no longer have the hashbrown morning sets! A bit of topic, but I was also traumatized when the IHOPs around here were turned into yakiniku restaurants.

They had many at one time or another:

Arby's
Dunkin Donuts
Cinnabon
Little Cesars Pizza
Burger King
Bob's Big Boy
Sizzler

as well as others

Usually, I can't see Japanese getting up at 8am just to get some flap jack's and sweet to boot, nope can't see the idea working in this country.

There was an IHop on the way out to my place that was always full up. Went to it one day and saw a closing notice. I asked the manager what was up? They always had a shit load of customers.

He said that the main office was in a major financial bind and was closing most of their restaurants in Tokyo. He didn't offer any other explanations, so I don't know if that was true, but I don't think I have seen an IHop in the Tokyo area since that time.

Most of them closed down around 2002

Krispy Kreme donuts aren't that good, except for the hot ones. The lines have died down so it's possible that they'll close down in Japan in a few years just like Cinnabon did.

Cold Stone Creamery had long lines. Now they don't.

Sizzler closed down on Omotesando a few years ago.

Bob's Big Boy has hamburgs, not hamburgers.

El Torito closed down in Shibuya a few years ago.

KK is fuckin shit. Coffee is like sewer sludge, doughnuts are soo sweet that they fuckin hurt. two hours later they are rock candy. Dunks does a much better job. KK only survived because they kept the store number low enough to keep the "disney" buzz going. I fucking hate the brainwashed j-consumer.

Japanese companies hoovered up a lot of overseas fast food and restaurant franchises in the 1970s following a law change in 1969. Everyone knows the winners like McDonalds, Denny's and KFC but, as Xenomorph notes, there have been a lot of chains which started up but failed for one reason or another. You can add the Berni Inn, Hardee's, Pizza Inn, Orange Julius, Tastee Freeze to his list.

The last few years have seen a new generation of entrants, prompted mainly by the success of Starbucks and cheaper real estate. Some, like Pret a Manger, hardly lasted. Burger King is a rare example of a brand getting a second chance in Japan.

Some of the KFCs have closed. The ones that are still open, and there still are a lot, have been serving cheaper (because it's) smaller food.

Wuchan, didn't know you had it in for KK! :D
But seriously, I feel the opposite. MD those aren't donuts. At best, they should rename them Mr. Cakes best donuts in the world, my ass! They are so hard, you can use them as "Brillo pads" and to ad insult to injury how dare the company make false advertisements that it's famous in San Francisco. Never seen it, never heard of it(thank the heavens)no one out there would remotely even try to eat, sorry...pulverize and put into their system. You need to swallow some stones just to help mulch the shit up!
While tastes are subjective, I have to say in all honesty, thank God that the MD is "mostly" popular in Japan and no where else really. If it were, I'd give up eating donuts, er...cakes altogether.:puke:

It was quite interesting to see many restaurant chains in Korea. I was shocked to see a Chilli's and Quezno's at Incheon almost the exact items as back in the states. I was wondering as to why so many American restaurants thrive in Korea, but they do a Kamikaze in Japan. Even Costco in Korea is awesome, here it's just getting more and more deplorable.

Speaking of potentially fatal but delicious burgers, I was wondering whatever happened to Victoria Station (I used to go to the ones in Roppongi and Yokohama). Serious grease attack, but mmmmm ...

Just looked it up, and it seems they are now run by Big Boy Japan. It seems the only ones left are in Hokkaido of all places. But there are 43 of 'em in Hokkaido!!??

On the other hand, there are Big Boys all over the place.

Sorry, a little confused. But still... C'mon man, you can't possibly think that Mr. toughnut is all that good, right? Even on it's worst day DD is better than MD. If not, why isn't the company all spread out across the world. Even Korea has 2 or 3 of them. Again, tastes are totally subjective, but hey....
If I want to to eat something hard, I'll buy a Jaw Breaker I mean, even KK in Korea has a far better selection than Japan.

I hate MD. I am talking about Dunkin' Donuts in the US.

Wikipedia wrote:North America

Mister Donut was founded in 1956 and had locations across most of North America.

Mister Donut was the largest competitor to Dunkin' Donuts, which was founded in 1950, before being acquired by Dunkin' Donuts' parent company, Allied-Lyons, in February 1990.

After the acquisition of Mister Donut by Allied-Lyons, all Mister Donut locations within North America were offered the chance to change their name to Dunkin' Donuts. Now only a scattered few locations still hold the name Mister Donut.

Mister Donut locations in Canada have since disappeared.

Japan and Asia

In 1983, Duskin Co., Ltd. of Osaka, Japan acquired the rights to franchise Mister Donut throughout Japan and Asia. Mister Donut is the largest donut chain operating in Japan. Mister Donut overtakes Philippines' own Dunkin' Donut to be the largest donut chain operator in the Philippines.

So there you have it, MD falls under the same category as Denny's.

This whole Eco this and Eco that is becoming plain bullshit. It's like the whole "digital" buzzword of circa 1999 era. Every company I see now loves to throw Eco on to everything. Whenever I hear someone use this word, I think more of the word cheapskate associated with it.

I got it, but why did they all disappear in the states??? Probably because of their granite like taste. but kudos to you for liking MD, But whenever I go to Korea, I always make sure of stopping by DD! Especially, when I go back to the states. I need to Dunk my Donut(kinda straightforward)You think you can whip up an old menu of MD in the states? I'd really be interested in it. I can't believe the states had the same crappy menu as Japan.
