Usually, I can't see Japanese getting up at 8am just to get some flap jack's and sweet to boot, nope can't see the idea working in this country.

wuchan wrote:there is still a big boy in fukaya, saitama. I would kill for a good, not stale Mr doughnut, doughnut and coffee. What happened to dunks here?
xenomorph42 wrote:Most of them closed down around 2002
But at least they have Krispy Kreme which is much, much better anyway!
wuchan wrote:KK is fuckin shit. Coffee is like sewer sludge, doughnuts are soo sweet that they fuckin hurt. two hours later they are rock candy. Dunks does a much better job. KK only survived because they kept the store number low enough to keep the "disney" buzz going. I fucking hate the brainwashed j-consumer.
Mulboyne wrote:Japanese companies hoovered up a lot of overseas fast food and restaurant franchises in the 1970s following a law change in 1969. Everyone knows the winners like McDonalds, Denny's and KFC but, as Xenomorph notes, there have been a lot of chains which started up but failed for one reason or another. You can add the Berni Inn, Hardee's, Pizza Inn, Orange Julius, Tastee Freeze to his list.
The last few years have seen a new generation of entrants, prompted mainly by the success of Starbucks and cheaper real estate. Some, like Pret a Manger, hardly lasted. Burger King is a rare example of a brand getting a second chance in Japan.
xenomorph42 wrote:Wuchan, didn't know you had it in for KK!
But seriously, I feel the opposite. MD those aren't donuts. At best, they should rename them Mr. Cakes best donuts in the world, my ass! They are so hard, you can use them as "Brillo pads" and to ad insult to injury how dare the company make false advertisements that it's famous in San Francisco. Never seen it, never heard of it(thank the heavens)no one out there would remotely even try to eat, sorry...pulverize and put into their system. You need to swallow some stones just to help mulch the shit up!
While tastes are subjective, I have to say in all honesty, thank God that the MD is "mostly" popular in Japan and no where else really. If it were, I'd give up eating donuts, er...cakes altogether.
wuchan wrote:where did you get MD from? I was talking about DD.
Yokohammer wrote:Speaking of potentially fatal but delicious burgers, I was wondering whatever happened to Victoria Station (I used to go to the ones in Roppongi and Yokohama). Serious grease attack, but mmmmm ...
Just looked it up, and it seems they are now run by Big Boy Japan. It seems the only ones left are in Hokkaido of all places. But there are 43 of 'em in Hokkaido!!??
On the other hand, there are Big Boys all over the place.
xenomorph42 wrote:Sorry, a little confused. But still... C'mon man, you can't possibly think that Mr. toughnut is all that good, right? Even on it's worst day DD is better than MD. If not, why isn't the company all spread out across the world. Even Korea has 2 or 3 of them. Again, tastes are totally subjective, but hey....
If I want to to eat something hard, I'll buy a Jaw Breaker I mean, even KK in Korea has a far better selection than Japan.

Yea, it's better than nothing, but at least in Korea they have the right idea of what the meaning of the word "Bliss" is.
Wikipedia wrote:North America
Mister Donut was founded in 1956 and had locations across most of North America.
Mister Donut was the largest competitor to Dunkin' Donuts, which was founded in 1950, before being acquired by Dunkin' Donuts' parent company, Allied-Lyons, in February 1990.
After the acquisition of Mister Donut by Allied-Lyons, all Mister Donut locations within North America were offered the chance to change their name to Dunkin' Donuts. Now only a scattered few locations still hold the name Mister Donut.
Mister Donut locations in Canada have since disappeared.
Japan and Asia
In 1983, Duskin Co., Ltd. of Osaka, Japan acquired the rights to franchise Mister Donut throughout Japan and Asia. Mister Donut is the largest donut chain operating in Japan. Mister Donut overtakes Philippines' own Dunkin' Donut to be the largest donut chain operator in the Philippines.

So there you have it, MD falls under the same category as Denny's.
